Motor City Icon: The Spirit of Detroit Exhibit
The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum is going to have an exhibit showing art inspired by the Spirit of Detroit statue, and they have asked to include some of my art. Specifically, a large canvas print of my Spirit of Detroit concept art I made when we were starting Two Drink Minimum, and the graphic novel itself, which features the statue on the last page of the print version.
The exhibit goes from October 5th through January 19th. The museum is located at 7400 Bay Rd, Saginaw, MI 48604. You can visit their website for details. http://marshallfredericks.org/
So if you are in the area you should check it out. There’s a slim chance I’ll make it out myself for the grand opening. For as much as I’ve drawn and written about Detroit over the years, I’ve never actually been there. So this could be a good opportunity to finally see it in person. We’ll see.
This is the first time my art will be shown in a museum, something I’ve never really imagined, so that is quite exciting and flattering for me. And I think it’s really cool that it will be in a Detroit adjacent area and focused on something as iconic as the Spirit of Detroit. I tried to work in some iconic Detroit landmarks in Two Drink Minimum with the hope that it captured some of the feel of the city, and I suppose this is some confirmation that it did.
