Day 71
Day 71 of the #365drawingchallenge is Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee. I just finished Guacamelee 2 last night and loved it. I played the first game a few years back on the Wii and really enjoyed it. It is one of the many Metroidvania style indie games that have been coming out in recent years, and in my opinion it is one of the best. And the second game is just as good.
I love those style games to begin with, and this one is full of style and humor. It also helps that it isn’t too hard. It does have a lot of difficult challenges, but they are mostly optional. And when you do die it is not a big deal since you start right back up where you lost. So for me it is just the right difficulty. If you continually build up your skills and go after optional treasure you’ll never feel under-powered.
You don’t see a ton of games representing Mexican culture, so I really enjoyed that here as well. I love day of the dead style art, and these games have a ton of it. And fantastic music. And they do not take themselves seriously at all. They are full of references to other games, memes, pop culture and just a bunch of goofy characters. So I highly recommend them.
