Day 174
Day 174 of the #365drawingchallenge is Raz from Psychonauts. This has sort of turned into another unofficial video game week, this time focusing more on some of my favorite characters. I’ve always had a knack for jumping onto cult classics as soon as they come out, whether it’s video games, movies or TV shows. And Psychonauts was one of those. I loved it when it came out for PS2. Such a cool concept and inventive level designs jumping into people’s minds. I’m excited to see what they can do with the upcoming sequel they recently announced.
I haven’t replayed it in a long time, but I still remember a lot of the levels and characters because they really stood out. This drawing of the main character Razputin is based off a particular level where everything is done in black light and has a Mexican vibe, including a giant charging bull attacking throughout. I just thought this was the coolest thing as a kid. Along with the level where you explore a twisted, paranoia fueled suburban neighborhood, this level was a hi-light for me. It also continues the trend of black background drawings focused on lighting effects that I’ve been returning to lately. One thing I really tried to do here was make sure the colors were really bright and popped, as I usually have a tendency to use a bit more toned done coloring. I really notice it when I post the drawings on Instagram and look at them with some filters. So I was conscious of it here.
