Day 197
Day 197 of the #365drawingchallenge is the legendary Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion. I love the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland and Disneyworld, and as a big fan I had long heard the stories about this mysterious ghost that no one knew for sure if he really ever existed. If you don’t know about it, there were several people saying they saw it when the ride first opened, and it appeared on promotional material, but if it was there it was only for a very short time because the effect didn’t work properly. A couple of years ago while celebrating an anniversary Disneyland made a “new” Hatbox Ghost that they added to the ride, and it is really cool. I got the chance to see it last year when I went to Disneyland and it was everything I hoped it would be.
My son picked up a pretty cool statue of the Hatbox Ghost at Disneyland where you can switch the head into the hatbox just like the ride. This was fun to draw and while looking at some reference pics of the ride I decided to just focus on the light hi-lights kind of like you would see on the ride. And I felt like going for the really scratchy line look, which almost makes me feel like it was drawn in chalk. and I think the results are pretty cool. It’s reminiscent of the Darth Vader I drew a few weeks ago.
