Day 218

Day 218 of the #365drawingchallenge is the legendary Mexican wrestler El Santo. I haven’t seen a ton of El Santo since his matches are so old, but I’m pretty fascinated by the legend of his extreme popularity. If you don’t know, he starred in movies and comic books and was one of the most famous people in Mexico. And it was all while wearing his mask and in character. He wore the mask all the time, and only took it off once in public on TV in an interview shortly before he died. The masked wrestler is a really important part of luchador culture, and he was the epitome of it. I did recently watch a pretty good documentary on Amazon Prime about the history of wrestling in Mexican where he was pretty heavily discussed.
