Day 321

Day 321 of the #365drawingchallenge a grotesque shrunken head. Kind of like my tiki from a few days ago, I drew some shrunken heads years ago as part of a 5 day challenge where I had to draw three things a day. So those were more rapid fire.

I did not look back at it or anything, just had it in the back of my mind. I remember I drew that, a voodoo doll and a tiki version of Black Snow that day. It’s a pretty fun design, and I like the colors. And it has that background thing I used to do a lot with the colorful trapezoid thing. I still like that as a background element. It’s simple but fun and helps make the drawing pop. Anyway, I don’t know why I’m focusing on a 4 year old drawing, I guess just because I haven’t looked at it in a long time. Let’s talk about today’s drawing. So this is still keeping with a sort of island tropical theme. I’ve always been fascinated with shrunken heads, it’s such a sick, weird thing. And it ties into that retro darkest heart of Africa vibe where it felt the world was a huge place full of mysteries. Sadly it doesn’t usually feel that way anymore. This type of stuff is just fun to draw, and I enjoyed drawing this one. I like the details and overall form. I wasn’t sure about the colored highlights, and originally there were more of them. I also made a mistake and started drawing them on a transparent layer, so that through me of a little. But in the end I think they add something and it works. Also, this background is pretty dope.
