TDM Page 46 and The Lone Wolf

Black Snow: Two Drink Minimum page 46

Another fun page that dabbles with some more realistic art.  The first thing I did on this page was the phone, and it was surprisingly easy.  I think it looks pretty damn good, and I like the way it is framed with the sound effects breaking out of the thick panel.

The 2nd thing I drew was the bottom close-up, detailed panel of Eric.  Then I redrew it.  Several times.  I just couldn’t stop tweaking it.  It always looked like a good drawing, but I didn’t think it really looked like Eric.  I just couldn’t get it right.  It was even more detailed at some points, and I really wanted to nail it to make the panel have a serious, new intensity we haven’t seen a lot of yet.

Eventually I just had to move on and start drawing the rest of the page so I wouldn’t lose all my momentum with the comic.  So I’m sad to say that while I like the panel and page I just don’t feel I ever got it right.

Beyond that panel I’m happy with the page.  In case you were wondering about Eric’s outfit, well I based it on the clothing of a black celebrity who thought he looked cool, but really looked like a dork.  I also thought it was a nice nod toward the old Anti-Nazi uniform.

I like that this page/scene has continued the slow build up towards the eventual debut of the Lone Wolf.  I think we’ve done a good job of consistently creating buzz about him since page 1.  And it’s intriguing because we really don’t know who he is at this point.  We’ve gotten multiple perspectives, and I can’t wait until we find out the truth!

Will we be able to live up to the hype?  Only time will tell, but I’m confident that this new incarnation of the Lone Wolf is going to meet or exceed expectations.  In the comic books he was portrayed as an arrogant pampered prick and a bit of a buffoon, with allusions to a darker side in the last issue.  In I’m Famous! he’s an eccentric lunatic that has somehow earned the love and respect of the general public, but drives the people actually around him insane.

Well, I don’t think he’ll be portrayed exactly like either of those incarnations based on what we’ve already seen in this story (of course I also have the luxury of knowing where his story is headed).

So if you’re getting excited to see the Lone Wolf, good.  We’ve done our job.  Keep getting excited, because you never know when that crazy son of a bitch is going to show up!
