Why So Quiet?!

Haven’t heard from me in awhile?  Why not?  Too busy.  Depression.  Apathy.  Take your pick.

I don’t really have a good reason. I just haven’t felt like it.  I got tired of it all and needed a break.  Relax, I’ll write some stuff about the pages I missed, since I know you love it so. Not now.  Soon enough.

I thought my time might be better spent just drawing, which I fell a bit behind on, thus no new I’m Famous!  But you got some of the most exciting, violent pages of Black Snow we’ve ever done!

As I’ve mentioned in my last couple of posts, my son was pretty sick so that took away a lot of my attention from comics.  In addition I’ve been really working on learning Spanish so I can get my moneys worth from Rosetta Stone.  Work has also been pretty busy, preparing a bunch of websites to launch for car dealerships in Texas.

Oh, and Alex decided he wants to move with his girlfriend to Baltimore in the upcoming months, so that took some of the wind out of my comic making sales.  But I won’t get into that here.

Guess what?  Today is my birthday.  Tis true.  I’m 29 damn years old.

Happy birthday to me.  It’s only 7:11 AM, and thus far my birthday well wishes have come from Google and my old dentist.  I’m dangerously close to 30, and feeling old.  In fact my back went out on Tuesday, and is still in pain!

It’s been a decent birthday build up though.  I saw Paranorman with the family, and really enjoyed it.  We’re going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today, which is always fun.  My wife and son got me a Nintendo 3ds, which I’ve been having a lot of fun with.  You can do some crazy stuff with that.

How did I start my birthday?  By watching a Space Ghost: Coast to Coast dvd.  For whatever reason there are people out there who link me to this show, I guess I was the only fan they knew when it started or something.  As I’ve said before, it was definitely an influence on my comic work.  Especially before I started reading comic books and this was one of my main links to superheroes.

I was a big fan of Adult Swim when it started, and really wanted to do something along those lines.  The groundbreaking “alternative humor” really clicked with me, and I thought Black Snow could somehow fit in there.

I don’t usually watch Adult Swim anymore.  A lot of it got too weird for me.  I think Space Ghost really started the whole weird comedy trend.  I also think the success of Adult Swim has had a huge affect on comedy as a whole.  I think you could link it to the rise of all these Will Ferrell and Seth Rogan and friends movies.  But that’s a topic I could really expand upon at some length.

So let me just end on this…I’m not dead.  I’ll write some more stuff soon, and I’ll keep on drawing.  Look forward to it!
