Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine's Day from Black Snow ComicsHopefully you have a good one today.  I didn’t draw anything special for you this year, as I’m putting all me drawing energy into finishing Two Drink Minimum.  I’ve got to get it done before the conventions start!

A couple things about the above image.  It’s the original Angel/Eric date scene (like their old designs?) from Black Snow issue 2.  I’ve always liked this image with the hatching and pointillism used for shading.  I remember drawing this on my lunch break in the old break room at Dolphin Pet Village, which was a job where I sold exotic pet fish.  It was one of three pet shops I worked at.

Anyway, I thought I’d quickly comment on VDSD.  What is that?  It stands for
Valentine’s Day Sex Drive, and basically it involves drawing your comic characters in a sexy naked pose.  Regular Black Snow Comics’ contributor Mark Egan was inspired to start the Google Plus group United Webcomics based on the communal aspect he felt from participating in VDSD last year.

It gives everyone a nice boost in traffic and some fan service for the readers.  So why didn’t I draw a naked pinup?  In addition to trying to finish a book, that’s really not my thing.  At some point you start to cross a weird fetish line that falls under the umbrella of porn, and that’s not why I draw comics.  I’m here to tell stories and jokes.  If nudity came up organically in either of those ways I wouldn’t have a problem with it.  But drawing a picture specifically for people to ogle in a sexy way…it’s not for me.

That said, if that’s what you’re into here some links to my friends VDSD drawings.
