Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

This is a pretty great/insane movie based off the writing of the equally insane Hunter S. Thompson. Terry Gilliam films are always pretty weird, and I generally like his stuff. He was a good choice to direct this. Compare it to other Hunter S. Thompson movies like Where the Buffalo Roam or the Rum Diary and you can see how much more interesting it is with all it’s artistic flair. I wanted to capture some of that weirdness here by basing this drawing on one of the wide angle lens close up shots distorting Johnny Depp’s face. I focused a lot on the colors here, really wanting them to look a bit off and unusual to capture some of that spirit. I’ve been told by friends who do drugs that this is the most accurate movie depicting drug use. So it must be crazy to do hard drugs. My sister had a big crush on Johnny Depp when she was a teenager, so I showed her this movie. She was not pleased.
