Self Portrait

Why are artists so compelled to draw themselves? I think one of the main reasons is because it’s an easy, always available subject. I know a lot of artists pose for reference purposes. I do that. I don’t think it’s a vanity thing. Like a lot of people, I don’t really love the way I look. I don’t hate it or anything, but it’s not the way I picture myself in my mind. I’m not sure many people dream of going bald. I thought this would be something quick and easy I could use for an avatar on social media. It took longer than I thought though, and I started over at one point. Obviously I was going for something stylized with the use of black and white and limited color. But that made it a bit harder. I don’t love the end result, but I don’t hate it either.
